A small summer capsule works when the pieces share colours, proportions and a level of formality. Start with five useful roles, then choose the versions that fit your climate, budget and existing wardrobe.
1. A simple T-shirt
A navy, white or muted-colour T-shirt can work on its own or under a light layer. Check that the neckline, length and sleeve shape suit the way you want to wear it. Compare the composition and care instructions in the T-shirt collection.
2. Comfortable trousers
Choose a pair that works when you sit and walk, with enough room through the thighs. A quieter colour makes it easier to combine the trousers with more than one top. A drawstring or stretch content may be useful, but neither corrects an unsuitable cut.
Browse trousers by the actual model and size information. Our trouser guide explains the fitting checks.
3. A versatile shirt
A plain or quietly striped shirt can provide a more composed alternative to the T-shirt. Choose a comfortable collar and decide whether you want to tuck it in. The length that works under a jacket may not be the one you prefer over shorts. Compare current options in the shirt collection.
4. Shorts for the settings where you wear them
If shorts belong in your routine, choose a length and leg opening that feel comfortable when you sit. Neutral colours can make combining easier. If your week rarely calls for shorts, replace this role with a second pair of lightweight trousers rather than buying to complete an arbitrary list.
The Bermudas and swimwear collection contains different types of garments. Check the description so that you choose casual shorts or swimwear for the intended use.
5. Footwear that works across the combinations
Loafers can suit several relaxed and smarter outfits, while sneakers may be more convenient for another wardrobe. Try the pair with the intended trousers and socks. Do not rely on breaking in to solve significant pain or the wrong shape.
Compare the loafer collection with the role your shoes need to fill. A second pair may make sense if your activities vary substantially.
Three ways to use the capsule
- A relaxed day: T-shirt, trousers and suitable casual shoes.
- Lunch or dinner: shirt, trousers and loafers, adjusted to the venue's dress code.
- A warm weekend: T-shirt or shirt with shorts, when the setting allows.
Calculate the budget from the products and sizes you actually select, including any delivery or alteration costs. Availability and prices can change; a capsule plan does not guarantee a complete outfit below a fixed amount. For a broader approach, read our spring and summer dressing guide.
